You have so many things to do being a new mom, and taking the time for breast pumping is just one more thing to add to your long list of to-do’s. However, you should not think of your breast pumping time this way. This can actually be your time to get away, take a couple of deep breaths, and just relax.
The first thing that you need to do is attempt to create a schedule for breast pumping during those times when the baby is sleeping or when dad walks in the door from work. Then hide yourself away in a nice quiet place of your own. A really good investment to make your time breast pumping more convenient and comfortable is a hands free bra. The best way to get as much breast milk as you can is to stay stress free and relaxing can help you produce even more breast milk. Before beginning to breast pump, grab the latest magazine, or turn on your TIVO to your favorite show that you can’t watch since you are a new mom. Let me tell you that you can watch one episode of “Desperate Housewives” in 4 breast pumping sessions. Anyway, find something that soothes you and allow this to be the time that you can take just for yourself.
If you are trying to rush through your breast pumping session, staring at your bottles, frustrated and aggravated that very little if anything is coming out, you will probably find that your sessions will only get worse while your breast milk supply dwindles down to nothing.
However, you will find that the more you take these opportunities to have some relaxing alone time, you may begin to fill up those bottles along with your freezer.
