The Symphony is best known for being the first hospital-grade breast pump to introduce the 2-phase pumping, which most simulates your baby's natural feeding pattern. This breast pump begins with the "stimulation" phase, a rapid cycle to induce let-down, then switches to a much slower, more powerful suction known as "expression."
Besides being one of the few breast pumps that utilizes a two-phase pumping cycle, it is also extremely efficient and powerful. The hospital-grade motor was developed to allow hundreds of mothers to use the breast pump, while expressing breast milk full-time if away from their baby for medical or other reasons. Therefore, it utilizes mechanisms that can easily express breast milk as quickly and efficiently as possible.
In addition, it is one of the quietest, most comfortable breast pumps on the market. The Symphony used a two-part breasts shield, as opposed to the all-in-one breast shield that attached to the bottle. This two-part shield allows you to change the breast shield for a different size that fits the areola of the nipple better, making the pumping session much more comfortable.
However, most moms are used to having two-knobs to control the suction/vacuum of the pump and the speed of the pump. The Symphony has one knob to control both. The speed is auto-linked to the pressure, ensuring more of a natural process.

My baby is 3 weeks old, and my pump has died TWICE. The first time, there was absolutely no issue with getting a replacement, HOWEVER, it has now died on me during the holiday weekend and they are not open again until Tues, which means that I will not be able to pump again until Wed (if they overnight it again like they did the first time). I am actually very disappointed, because when it DOES work, it is very efficient and the pain associated with it is very minimal, if any at all. I was also able to pump out 4-6 oz within mere minutes while double pumping. |
