Since we still need to get up one to two times during the night to cuddle up to our breast pump and watch Carson Daly’s “Last Call,” we want those nighttime feedings to flow as smoothly and quickly as possible.
There are a few favorites that will make these nighttime visits much easier.
Once of my favorite things was the Arms’ Reach Co-sleeper. This was a life saver. Once I got the bottle ready, I would lie back down and reach over to her while I fed her. We were both able to lie down and cuddle together while in our own beds. She hardly woke up while she sucked that bottle down. When she was done, I put the empty bottle on the night table, and we were both able to turn over and fall right back to sleep.
Another great product was the Bebe Sounds Mini Fridge. This tiny refrigerator can be plugged in either your room or the nursery. It keeps the bottles cold, and you don’t have to run to the kitchen to get a cold bottle. The great thing about this tiny fridge is that it can be used when you intend to go back to work and pump. Once you have finished pumping, just put your breast milk in your little fridge until you get home.
The last piece of the puzzle is the bottle warmer. Since the baby was right next to me in her Co-sleeper, I could hear her stir before she woke up completely for her bottle. I could reach over to the mini-fridge and place the bottle in the bottle warmer, then I could lie back down. When the bottle was warm, I just reached over to the baby and fed her in my arms until she had finished her bottle. Then, I could just place her back in her Co-sleeper.
Let me tell you, for 6 months it was a very cramped little corner in our master bedroom, but I got so much more sleep than I thought was possible with a newborn.
